The Singa® Diaphragm

The Singa® Diaphragm is a mechanical contraceptive available in 7 different sizes. It is a barrier method and covers the cervix. It is always  used in combination with a diaphragm gel. It protects against unwanted pregnancy by preventing sperm from entering the uterus.

How to use the Singa® Diaphragm

Before first use

1. Make a note of the date of first use on the back of the Singa® Case.
2. Wash the Singa® Diaphragm with warm water and soap and dry it with a soft cloth.
3. Practise inserting it before using it for the first time during sexual intercourse.
4. Feel for:
   your cervix It feels like the tip of your nose
   your pubic bone: it is located at the front and top of the vagina
    

How to insert the Singa® Diaphragm
 

1. Apply approx. 4 ml of diaphragm gel to the centre of the silicone membrane of the diaphragm.
2. Fold the diaphragm at the grip dimples.
3. Get into a position that is comfortable for you: lying down, squatting or with one leg raised.
4. Hold the diaphragm so that your thumb and index finger rest on the grip dimples and insert it deeply along the back wall of the vagina.
5. Check the fit with a finger: the cervix must be completely covered; the diaphragm should sit correctly in the upper vaginal vault, behind the cervix and the pubic bone.
6. If the cervix is not completely covered, remove the diaphragm and reinsert it.

After sexual intercourse
 

1. Leave the Singa® Diaphragm in the vagina for at least 6 hours after the last sexual intercourse. Only then can you remove it.
2. Never wear it for more than 24 hours at a time.

How to remove the Singa® diaphragm
 

1. Slide a finger over the top edge of the diaphragm.
2. Gently pull the Singa® Diaphragm down and out.

Cleaning & storage
 

1. Wash the Singa® Diaphragm with soap and water after each use.
2. Dry it with a soft, clean cloth and store it in the Singa® Case.

Differences from the Caya® diaphragm

The principle of action is the same for the Singa® Diaphragm and the Caya® Contoured diaphragm: both cover the cervix and, together with the diaphragm gel, act as a barrier to prevent sperm from entering the uterus. They therefore provide protection against unwanted pregnancy.

The differences lie in the shape and sizing. The Caya® diaphragm is designed as a one-size-fits-most product and can be used without individual fitting. It is suitable for the vast majority of women, as it fits 93% of all women.

For the remaining women, the Singa® Diaphragm offers an alternative in various sizes. The correct size must be measured and fitted by a doctor or midwife before first use.

Important information: Always use your diaphragm together with a diaphragm gel. Before every sexual intercourse, check that the cervix is completely covered. The diaphragm protects against unwanted pregnancy, but not against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
